Dennis Blair Dec. 4-8
Sometimes all we really want is to make sense of the world. Renaissance man Dennis Blair is no exception, and his stand-up comedy reflects that. From cell phones and airline protocol to musical styles of so-called legends, Dennis has a knack for picking out the absurd and honing in on it. Beyond his incredible sense of humor and precise comedic timing, Dennis brings a versatility to the stage that we find rare. As an accomplished screen-writer, award-winning songwriter and comedic actor, Dennis has had the experience of learning under Rodney Dangerfield and touring with George Carlin. In other words, he learned from the best. He’s performed on the Tonight Show and HBO, co-hosted the Stephanie Miller Radio Show with Elayne Boosler, and has entertained in major venues like Carnegie Hall in New York, the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and this week, he’ll be performing live on stage at our very own McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre! Fundraiser: Council for Exceptional Children Dec. 4
On Wednesday, December 4, Dennis Blair will be headlining our fundraiser for the Council for Exceptional Children. This organization, dedicated to improving the education and quality of life for children with exceptionalities, are the voice and vision of special and gifted students. By joining us for Dennis Blair’s show on Wednesday, you will help this international community of professionals improve these children’s lives and enhance the engagement of their families. Black Diamond Burlesque Dec. 8
Sarasota’s premiere burlesque review is back and ready to celebrate the holidays with tinsel, sparkles and all that glitters! This vintage cabaret show has been wowing audiences since 2010 with an all-star cast of burlesque beauties, sultry singers and wild vaudeville acts. Come out and enjoy and evening of striptease, feats of daring, music and tons of sparkle. There’s nothing quite like the Black Diamond Burlesque Show and our Jingle Belles- experience this luminous live show Sunday evening at McCurdy’s!
Open Mic Night Dec. 4
On Wednesday evening, be sure to stick around in our Green Room Lounge after the Humor Institute for our Open Mic Night. Beginning at 9pm, this show features 10 amateur comedians performing 5 minute sets. Some professionals even stop by occasionally to work on new material. This is a great chance to see raw talent in its early stages! There’s no cover or minimum purchase, but audience members must be 18 with a valid picture ID.
Off The Clock Interview Dec. 5
If you stop by on Thursday evening, you’ll enjoy a bonus treat when Les McCurdy joins the comedians on-stage for our Off The Clock interview. This 15-20 minute interview with the comedians is a great way for audience members to get to know them more personally. There’s also a Q & A portion with the audience, so bring your questions about who they are, where they come from and how they got started in comedy!
