Special Events
This week at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre is packed with fun: special events, really famous people, local entertainment that never gets old… we’ve got it all this week and we can’t wait to share it with you! Take a look at the lineup and be sure to get your tickets because they’re going fast!
This two-night special event features the amazing Diane Ford, comedy veteran with literally hundreds of credentials. Among her top honors include nominations eleven years in a row for Comedienne of the Year by the American Comedy Awards, a successful three-month run of her show “Diane Ford’s Cosmopolitan Comedy” at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, the Critic’s Choice Award for her participation in the Edinborough Festival in Scotland, and co-writing an episode of “Home Improvement” with Tim Allen.
With a voice of experience that exudes sophistication and a relaxed, devil-may-care attitude, Diane makes her audience settle into a celebration of the futility of life and love. She doesn’t have anything to prove, making her show fun and enjoyable for everyone. Catch her this week on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 20-21, only at McCurdy’s!
Yet another special event later in the week, Shawn Wayans, of the famous Wayans Brothers comedy team, graces our stage for two nights only! On Thursday and Friday nights, Nov. 22-23, come out to experience the comedy that started with the movie “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka,” written by his brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and immediately followed by his debut on the Emmy Award-winning comedy series, “In Living Color.” Movie credits include box office hits like “Little Man,” “White Chicks,” “Scary Movie” and “Scary Movie 2,” just to name a few! Shawn also stars in “The Wayans Bros.” sitcom, co-created with Marlon. This was the first WB hit to be sold into syndication after heading up the WB network lineup for 5 years. Come see Shawn and learn exactly what kind of funny makes the Wayan brothers so successful- he may even give you a hint about the next project he and his brothers are cooking up in their “lab.”
Our very own Les McCurdy and Ken Sons have been touring the country as the Bermuda Mavericks since 1982, and on Sunday, Nov. 24, you’ll see why they continue to be successful. After performing with comedy greats like Jerry Seinfeld, Tim Allen, Chris Rock, Ray Ramona, The Smothers Brothers and Bob Newhart- not to mention open for musical acts like Kenny Rogers, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Clint Black and Alabama- these guys are the true local celebrities. The work with a perfect blend of professionalism, rehearsed comedy and improvisation. Come see what makes McCurdy’s Founding Fathers so substantial in the world of comedy this week!
Beneva Fruitville Drag Queen Bingo Bonanza Nov. 24
After the Bermuda Mavericks, stick around to play a little bingo… and enjoy big laughs. The Beneva Fruitville Drag Queen Bingo Bonanza is everyone’s favorite naughty show. As Sarasota’s longest running live show, these queens-of-the-stage know how to get the crowd going and include more than a few surprises along the way. Bingo games are called throughout the night, with prizes provided by Kinky Kitty. It’s a show that brings the laughter and cheekiness with it for a night you won’t forget! Join us Sunday night, Nov. 24, and see what makes this an experience like none other.
Off The Clock Interview Nov. 21
If you stop by on Thursday evening, you’ll enjoy a bonus treat when Les McCurdy joins the comedians on-stage for our Off The Clock interview. This 15-20 minute interview with the comedians is a great way for audience members to get to know them more personally. There’s also a Q & A portion with the audience, so bring your questions about who they are, where they come from and how they got started in comedy!
To learn even more about our past and present entertainers, be sure to check out our podcast, The Conversation. These backstage interviews with our favorite comedians is an awesome, candid glimpse into what they’re really like, what gets them excited about performing stand-up comedy, and where they’re hoping to go next. Our newest one features Jodi White and Geno Williams, along with Jodi’s husband and comedian, Dale Jones, plus two killer Florida comedians, Cam Bertrand and JJ Curry, all bantering with Les McCurdy about their long-standing comedic experiences and what they love about the industry.
Don’t miss some of the highest-quality comedy around! Come out to McCurdy’s this week and get a shot of funny to keep you going all week long. Stop by this week, enjoy your evening, and laugh the night away with some amazing comedy!
