Get Your Halloween On
This Halloween week is a fun-filled week of quality comedy, events, fundraisers and interviews to keep you laughing all week long! McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre is never short on fun, and this week is going to be awesome, no matter when you stop by…… Trick or Treat!!
Growing up with family deep-rooted in the South, there was always that one cousin or uncle who you could never take seriously. He’d try to tell you a story, and you were always waiting for the punchline. And there always was one. He was never actually serious about anything. In the world of comedy, Al Ernst, straight out of Dalton, GA, is that silly Southern uncle that never tells it straight but always keeps you laughing. This week’s headliner at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre has been featured in a Wall Street Journal article about clean comedy, and his self-deprecating humor is always warm and silly. You only stop laughing at one joke because you know another one is right behind it.
With a self-proclaimed face for radio, Al has been featured on over 150 radio shows, and has been a professional wrestling announcer. He has been named Carnival Cruise Lines “Entertainer of the Year,” which isn’t easy given the thousands of performers they feature every year! With TV credits on networks like CNN, TNN, ESPN, A&E, Comedy Central and HBO, Al even developed his own show, A View from the Cheap Seats. Al also headlines corporate events, including some motivational speaking with non-confrontational humor to the delight of audiences everywhere. This week, get your own dose of Al Ernst, only at McCurdy’s from 10/30-11/3!
Come early on Sunday evening and participate in our silent auction fundraiser! We’ll have live music and food during this social hour. Plus, your donations will benefit the 9th Annual Tanner’s Turkeys Basket Brigade, a Sarasota non-profit run by Michele Tanner that seeks to feed local families in need at Thanksgiving. Year to date, they’ve fed over 1300 families, and this year’s goal for Thanksgiving is to feed 250-500 local families at Thanksgiving. Your $30 admission ticket includes a seat to watch Al Ernst headline the 7pm show after the auction, but more importantly, your $30 ticket is the equivalent of feeding an entire family at Thanksgiving. Tanner’s Turkeys uses the money raised to purchase canned goods, rolls and frozen turkeys to give to needy families. Before you dig into your own Thanksgiving meal, make sure another family in the area is doing so, too. We value your support and look forward to a fun night together on Sunday, Nov. 3!
On Wednesday evening, be sure to stick around in our Green Room Lounge after Al’s show for our Open Mic Night. Beginning at 9pm, this show features 10 amateur comedians performing 5 minute sets. Some professionals even stop by occasionally to work on new material. This is a great chance to see raw talent in its early stages! There’s no cover or minimum purchase, but audience members must be 18 with a valid picture ID.
If you stop by on Thursday evening, you’ll enjoy a bonus treat when Les McCurdy joins the comedians on-stage for our Off The Clock interview. This 15-20 minute interview with the comedians is a great way for audience members to get to know them more personally. There’s also a Q & A portion with the audience, so bring your questions about who they are, where they come from and how they got started in comedy!
To learn even more about our past and present entertainers, be sure to check out our podcast, The Conversation. These backstage interviews with our favorite comedians is an awesome, candid glimpse into what they’re really like, what gets them excited about performing stand-up comedy, and where they’re hoping to go next. Our newest one features Dwight Slade, Al April, and Kevin Krasko bantering with Les McCurdy about their long-standing comedic experiences and how to make a name for yourself in the business of comedy.
Don’t miss some of the highest-quality comedy around! Come out to McCurdy’s this week to find the laughter you need to make it through the week. Stop by this week, do some good in the community and enjoy your evening while you do!
