They say that if we don’t learn how to laugh at ourselves, we’ll cry our eyes out. After going through a nasty divorce, this week’s comedian learned how to laugh at herself and has been bringing audiences along for the ride ever since. Janet Williams, AKA “The Tennessee Tramp” has been doing comedy for 21 years.

Now, after plenty of experience honing her craft, numerous performances in comedy clubs and casinos nationwide, including three seasons as the first white female on BET’s Comic View, Janet’s loveable, bawdy character “The Tramp” has become a McCurdy’s favorite.

Prior to doing stand-up comedy, Janet taught criminal justice at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for 21 years. She claims, “I like teaching on the University level because you can say ‘shit’ in class. I’m not a grade school teacher.” She crams a three-hour show into 45 minutes, picking on her audience throughout the show. However, wanting to be sure everyone has a good time, she always makes herself the brunt of the joke. Come see Janet Williams live at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre this week, October 3-7, and be ready to laugh your ass off (and possibly be teased for doing so).
