America’s Got Talent

School is back in session this week when McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre welcomes Mike Rivera, America’s Funniest Teacher, back to the stage for a few nights of hilarious classroom humor. Mike, a civics teacher from Largo, FL, became America’s Most Hilarious Teacher according to The View during their nationally televised comedy competition. After nearly three decades on stage performing stand-up comedy, Mike was thrilled to be recognized for his talent, both in and out of the classroom. When he’s not delivering relevant civics lessons to his middle school students, Mike finds ways to connect with audiences much in the same way a teacher must connect with his students if he’s going to make an impact. And make an impact he has. Mike brings a power-packed show to our stage this week when he performs October 17-18. Don’t miss America’s Most Hilarious Teacher this week!

Then plan to make a return trip to see Preacher Lawson later this week. After several exciting appearances on America’s Got Talent, Preacher Lawson has made a name for himself in the world of comedy. Proclaiming, “I can’t be gangster- I’m ticklish,” and demonstrating an energy beyond most performers’ abilities, Preacher uses physical comedy as well as a repertoire of facial expressions to accentuate his point. Born in Portland, OR and raised in Memphis, TN, Preacher moved 20 times before the age of 10 but will claim Orlando, FL as “where he’s from” if asked, since this is where he discovered his talent as a comedian. With accolades like the 2015 Funniest Comedian in Florida and winner of the 2016 Seattle International Comedy Competition, Preacher intends to keep being a professional comedian for as long as he can, which by his words means, “I’m unemployed and I do stand-up on the side.”

Check out one or both of these hilarious stand-up staples this week at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre (October 19-20). We promise you’ll laugh until you cry.
